West Ghent is a vibrant, urban neighborhood defined in Article II of the WGCL BYLAWS as "that area North of the Elizabeth River, West of Hampton Blvd, and south of the railroad tracks bordering Jeff Robertson Park in the City of Norfolk, Virginia."

ANNUAL 4th of JULY BIKE PARADE !!!
We will be having our annual 4th of July bike parade through West Ghent on Monday at 4:30. Please have the kids meet at the intersection of Weyanoke & Graydon Place with as much red, white, and blue visible as possible. Popsicles & water will be available at the end (also at Graydon Place) for all thirsty finishers.

2016 General Meeting Schedule
Meetings are held on Wednesdays at the W.H. Taylor Elementary School Auditorium starting at 7pm.

Neighborhood Watch Program
Representatives from the Norfolk Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit updated us on re-establishing a Neighborhood Watch Program in West Ghent. We are currently signing up block captains. Help get this program up and running to reduce crimes in West Ghent. Please contact us if you are interested in being involved

Environmental Award for Recycling in Norfolk's Neighborhoods (EARNN program)
Guest speaker: The City Forester Michael Nentwich presented lots of great information about the importance and care of trees in our area. We will keep you updated on local events where free trees are available. Contact 757-664-6510 if you have an issue with a city-owned tree.
Membership is $15 per household annually (July-June)
Beginning Friday, May 20 at 8 p.m. through Tuesday, May 25 at 11:59 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction at the Hampton Boulevard Underpass on Hampton Boulevard between 21st Street and 25th Street for critical roadway and drain repairs. Motorists are encouraged to use Granby Street and Monticello Avenue as alternate routes.
Join us in Graydon Park on Sunday May 15 from 4-6pm.
Drinks will include water, lemonade and beverages from Smartmouth Brewery. Please bring your favorite appetizer or dessert to share, the civic league will provide the tables, paper products and cups.
Please remember to bring $15 to renew your WGCL membership for 2016-2017.

Taylor Elementary Cleanup April 22 3-5pm
The Spring 2016 session begins on Thursday, April 7 and runs through June 30th. Click to apply. Classes are FREE and FUN !!! Be sure to include your mailing address and/or telephone number. A signed consent to a criminal background check is required as part of the application process. The Norfolk Police Department reserves the right to deny any application based upon criminal history. West Ghent Recycling Event HUGE Success!!
Thank you West Ghent residents, volunteers, and truck drivers! Over 175 items were recycled including uncounted yards of wiring.
