ELIZABETH RIVER TRAIL ADOPT A SPOT CLEANUP SATURDAY NOVEMBER 12 9-10AM
The West Ghent Civic League (WGCL) has adopted the ERT (between Langley Rd and Redgate Ave through Jeff Robertson Park at Claremont Ave) for quarterly clean-up, the first of which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12th, starting at 9 am. The entire clean-up should take no more than an hour.
At least 10 volunteers are needed. The volunteers will be divided into two (2) groups, one group starting at each end of the trail. To make things simple, it is strongly suggested that volunteers that live between:
· Redgate Ave and Princess Anne Rd report to the Redgate end of the trail by 9 am (where Redgate dead ends at the Norfolk Southern chain link fence near Orapax)
· Baldwin Ave & Armistead Bridge Rd through Azalea Court report to the Jeff Robertson Park end of the trail by 9 am (near the Jeff Robertson historic plaque on Claremont Ave).
Each team will receive a safety and procedures briefing, plastic bags, nitrile gloves and tools (mechanical grabbers or brooms) before setting off. Both teams will clean half the trail; when the teams meet at the midway point, the wooden bridge over the creek behind the Mallory Country Club, they will turn around and return to their respective starting points. In addition to picking up litter, Keep Norfolk Beautiful (KNB) has requested we sweep pine needle accumulations off the ERT (NOTE: we don’t have to bag the pine needles, just sweep them off the trail).
Please NO SANDALS.
Children are welcome to participate, ideally in the company of a parent or guardian. Children between the ages of 12 and 17 may participate without a parent or guardian if they bring a signed permission form (the 2nd attachment) to the safety briefing. Children 18 and older do not require a permission form. NOTE: This can be used to fulfill Community Service requirements for school, Boy/Girl Scout advancements, etc.)
If you want to volunteer or have questions, please e-mail Tom Scarpelli AND Venessa August. If you have already indicated you’ll be attending via a West Ghent Neighborhood e-mail, you do not need to do so again.
Thanks and hope to see you there!!
ANNUAL 4th of JULY BIKE PARADE !!!
